CHS Alum Brings Back Swim-A-Thon Memories

Campus High School 1975 graduate Dr. Lyle Noordhoek participated in the CHS Swim-A-Thon during his junior and senior years on the swim team. When he heard five CHS seniors would be in the pool raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Kansas last weekend, he wanted to make a contribution.
Dr. Noordhoek, a pathologist in Hays, brought with him to Haysville a $500 donation and the desire to get back in his old high school’s pool. On Sunday, while CHS swimmers were in the pool, Dr. Noordhoek swam 3.5 miles bringing back memories of the last time he was in the pool 39 years ago participating in the Swim-A-Thon.
He is an avid swimmer logging a 3-to-5 mile swim every other Sunday and shorter 1-to-1.5 miles swim 1 to 2 times a week. After 2 hours in the pool, Dr. Noordhoek looked like after a brief rest he could swim another 3.5 miles.

Congrats Campus Bowlers

There may not have been a more disappointed team in the entire state of Kansas Saturday than the Derby girls’ bowling team.

It was announced that Campus and Derby finished with the same overall score so it was sent to a tiebreak. The determining tiebreak was which team bowled a higher high game.

Campus 213, Derby 214. Derby had just won the first annual Campus Bowling Invitational. So along the awards ceremony went, right into the boys’ finishers. A Seneca Bowl worker then approached the medal table and had a short discussion with the announcer.

Haysville Team Takes 2nd in Kansas Cal Ripken Tournament of Champions

I received the following from Adam Tackett, coach of the 8 & Under Haysville Rookie 2 baseball team that was one of the teams representing their league in the Kansas Cal Ripken Tournament of Champions this year that was played in Oswego Ks July 19-22.

Our team was made up of players from three different teams from the league this year in the Rookie 2 division. The Royals, the Cardinals and the Scrappers. Our first game was Friday July 20 vs. Neosho River Valley Mudcats in which both teams battled out in a slug fest with Haysville finishing on top with a final score of 19-17. Our second game was played Saturday July 21 vs. the Canton-Galva Eagles. Haysville again played an amazing game defeating the Eagles in four innings 12-2. This put our Haysville team in first place in the American league pool to proceed on to bracket play for Sunday afternoon in which Haysville battled out against a very tough match up vs Columbus that ended in victory for our Haysville team with a final score of 16-7 sending them to the Championship
game Sunday evening.

The Championship game put a matchup of Haysville vs. Humbolt. Both teams had been undefeated the entire tournament and carried tremendous momentum in the final game. Although Haysville lead the entire game up to the last pitch of the last inning, Humbolt battled back for an impressive victory over Haysville for a final score of 12-11 placing our Haysville Rookie 2 team in second place in the
state of Kansas in the Cal Ripken League.

Parents and Coaches are very proud of the boys for battling it out in the extreme heat conditions and playing so hard and never giving up!
